Who We Are
Corinth Baptist Church of LaFayette is a place
where all kinds of people come together
for a common journey--a journey of seeking, discovering, knowing and sharing
God's love
in Jesus Christ in our community and throughout the world. No matter
where you are in
your own journey, even if one hasn't yet begun for you, there are people and
programs here
to help you on your way.
We are a church that seeks to engage the whole
person in the exciting process of
merging faith and everyday living. We strongly encourage everyone to
involve themselves
in Sunday worship,
small group meetings and to serve in some form of
Christian ministry.
Whether you needs answers, encouragement,
discipleship and training, or just someone
to listen, this is a place where you will be challenged and helped to know
and follow God
closer than you have in the past.
Corinth Baptist Church is a part of the
Northwest Georgia Association
and the
Southern Baptist
Convention.
Some History...On September 16, 1899, an
organizational meeting was held for the purpose
of forming
a Missionary Baptist Church in
the Corinth Community. At the time of this meeting,
eighteen people presented
letters for membership. A church body was established and
the name
"Corinth" was adopted by this group. Reverend H.W. Head was called as
pastor
of this newly formed congregation. He served as pastor until July 1905.
God's blessing was surely upon
this group of people as they moved forward in His work.
As acre of land was
purchased from JM Foster for the purpose of building a school/church
building. Some
nine months later, this little congregation moved into the newly constructed
building.
In 1916, the need arose for an addition to one made to the facility.
The church body began
to grow and in January 1923, more land was purchased from WA
Dunwoody for ten dollars.
A new and larger building was erected for the church and
dedication in 1924. In 1964, 1974,
1988 and 1996, new addition and/or remodeling
took place resulting in the present sanctuary,
fellowship hall and pastor's home.
Over the years God has placed
many great pastors as well as scores of dedicated believers in
positions of leadership at
Corinth Baptist Church. The gospel message has echoed with its
walls since its
beginning and countless numbers have found their way to Christ through the
ministries of
the church.
